Been orbiting in circumstance of motherhood
Bound in love to three sons now adult
With wives, children, houses in their care
Problems with mortgages, lost jobs and health
Now my time to listen and support
Share my hard-earned wisdom gained
When I was fifty as now they are
This orbit an amazing gift to me
To know my sons as men they have become
To tell uncensored struggles I battled through
Reveal their parents in stark honesty
To be friends with boundaries
Love exchanged and trust secured
I’m back home my muse returned to me
That’s so lovely. We all need advice from those who have experienced life before us and won through.
Thank you. ❤
It’s wonderful that you can experience that cycle of life and be able to share what you’ve learned now that they’re old enough to listen!
Oh yes! And most of all to trust me enough to share their troubles with me.
This is a beautiful example of the circle of life. Not just birth and death are part of that circle, but the sharing of wisdom and truths and being there for each other.
Yes. Life would be incomplete without passing goodness along to our next generations.
Absolutely!
You spoke for all of us grandparents, Ina,
And so articulate too.
We thought once the children reached adulthood and graduated from university, our “job” was done. Then we thought once they married, our “job” was done. All three are married and we are grandparents. But our “job” remains incomplete.
Parenthood is a lifelong vocation. And we’ll not have it any other way.
And it makes one wax lyrical – source for our muse. True.
Peace,
Eric
Thanks for your affirmation of being parents and now grandparents, Eric. Being part of my sons’ life challenges gives me a wonderful sense of purpose. I’m so glad that I left my life in Chicago and moved here to be near family.
That’s so kind of you, thanks!
I love the poem
Thank you.
