Sometimes everything has to be enscribed across the heavens so you can find the one line already written inside you. Sometimes it takes a great sky to find that small, bright, and indescribable wedge of freedom in your own heart. David Whyte

Transpositions

Sometimes life itself becomes the poem
Eyes drink in images silly, sad, profound
See beauty of sunset and the moon ascend
Ears charmed by music, small children at play
Hear stories, rhymes and wailing grief
Tastes dance lively tattoos on the tongue
Grapefruit a wake-up call divine as any caffeine buzz
Pepper mustard gives tango flick to daily bread
Smell bewitched remembers past as if today
Imagines future loves and candle scent, gives alarm of burning pot
Touch of human hands, soft fleecy blankets on the bed
Feel of rough wood, rounded pebbles, water from a spout
Breathe a song of living out our days

Haiku: Sound Interpretations

Silence place I choose
Window open wide to world
Transports mind and heart.

Absent friendly noise
Hall outside apartment door
Quiet becomes a cage.

Tracking Phenomena

Morgan the elephant wanted a mate
Remembered since elephants never forget
How to cross Kenyan border now branded unsafe.
By day hiding in forests from human sight
Continuing his stealthy travels by night
He arrived safe and sound in Somalia.

Outfitted with GPS implanted collar
Morgan conveyed unexpected good news
Somalian elephants mourned as dead were alive.
Scientists thought Morgan’s journey a marvel
Through scourge of war and human ferocity
One love-lorn elephant outwitted hostilities.

Pantry shelf is stocked
Food to please and nourish life.
Bookshelf feeds my soul.

Haiku: Wistful Thinking

January days
Snow outside snug in my chair
Happy with my lot.

March brings crocuses
Soul awakes to pulse of spring
Taunting memories.

Haiku: Waiting

Wind sways brown tree branch
Blank page poised for artist’s hand
Green leaves newly wrought.

Haiku: Shades of Love

Sentimental
Born in memory
Distillation slightly sweet
Colored palest mauve.

Passionate
Born of flesh and fire
Fermentation teases tongue
Colored deep red rose.

Saturday lazy
Snow flakes now and then falling
I think winter wanes.
