Sometimes everything has to be enscribed across the heavens so you can find the one line already written inside you. Sometimes it takes a great sky to find that small, bright, and indescribable wedge of freedom in your own heart. David Whyte

Writing 101 – Yin and Yang of Writing

on September 21, 2015

Writing and not writing
Balance scale equally
Both necessary
When they’re in sync.

Time to be fallow
Await inspiration
Creative energy
Stirs in my soul.

Writing is joy
Of words cascading
Free from restraining
Of censoring mind.

Re-working, tidying
Tweaking, spell-checking
Follow in progression
Before edits and posting.

Then time to rest
Play and rejoice
Another birthing
A labor of love.

Such a beautiful analogy my friend. I really like it.

May I know what “fallow” meant in that sentence?
I wish you love, light and peace πŸ™‚

Thanks for your comment. In my poem fallow refers to a field resting after the previous crop has been harvested and the land cleared. The field waits “fallow” before seeds for the next crop are planted. In the categories listed on my blog there is one called “Being Fallow” about how I first happened on this analogy.

Your poem describes the creative process well – fallow time to let the subconscious mind play; creative outpouring and then revision and review.

P.S. The post I’m thinking about is dated Aug. 2, 2014. I have several posts that I tagged Being Fallow.

I love your words. “Another birthing…” life is like that! ❀

  6. Love what you have shared, today. Questioning my writing skills, oftentimes, takes me away from the joy of writing . Then, I remember. This is my story and I am empowered to share it using my own words. Thank you for this post.

    Nicely done!

    This is my favorite part:
    Writing is joy
    Of words cascading
    Free from restraining
    Of censoring mind.

    Yay!

I like that too. Thanks for your comment. πŸ™‚
